Team Leagues - Structure and Format.
It's good to understand how our leagues are typically structured.
We follow a classic round-robin tournament format.
Teams are divided into one of two divisions - either Tuesday or Wednesday. Within each division, the teams with a set number of players (usually 5-8 per team but some have larger squads) are put into a league draw which sets out the matches for the season.
We usually take a three-week break (excuse the pun!) during the Christmas and New Year festivities and we also try to avoid any other important calendar dates such as Valentines Day.
For the duration of the season (usually 18 weeks for the winter and 14 for the summer), your team will face off in a head-to-head match against every other team in your division, both home and away.
This results in each team having the same number of scheduled matches to play over the course of a season.
The winner of each individual frame earns a point for their team and one further point is awarded to the winning team of each match.
Within a given match, each player plays three frames of 8-Ball against other players on the opposing team.
So for a five-person team, that's 15 individual frames.
The team that wins the majority of those frames wins the overall match - and that extra point. Simple as that!
Team league matches are generally played on a predetermined date given in a fixtures list that is published on our App. One of the great things about our leagues is that you can see the whole season’s fixtures well in advance and notify your captain of which dates you can be available to play and when you can’t (you may have a loved one’s birthday or be on a well deserved holiday break!).
